FAQ

XM FAQ by Category

These answers explain general product, account and platform concepts. Live terms should be checked against the current XM account, contract specifications and legal documents that apply in your jurisdiction.

Account Opening, Verification and Profile Management

01

How do I create an XM Profile and live trading account?

Register an XM Profile, complete the personal-information and identity-verification steps that apply to your region, then create an eligible trading account. Account types and platforms can differ by jurisdiction, and live trading normally requires verification and funding.

02

What documents are usually required for XM verification?

XM applies know-your-customer checks. Common requirements include valid proof of identity and proof of address, but accepted documents, expiry rules and upload requirements should be confirmed in the current verification workflow.

03

What if my country or region is not available during registration?

XM does not provide services in every jurisdiction. If your residence is not listed or registration says the service is unavailable, do not use another person’s address or false documents to bypass the restriction.

04

Can one XM Profile manage multiple trading accounts?

An XM Profile can manage multiple eligible trading accounts. Each account can still have its own account type, platform, server and trading conditions, so MT4 and MT5 credentials should not be mixed.

05

How do I correct personal details on my XM account?

What can be edited depends on the field and verification status. Changes to a legal name, address or other core identity details may require new documents or manual review through XM Profile or protected support.

06

What is the difference between an XM Profile password and a trading-account password?

The Profile password is used to access XM account-management functions. A trading-account password is used with the trading account ID on the matching MetaTrader platform. They serve different purposes and should not be shared.

07

Can I change the email address registered with XM?

Whether the email can be changed directly depends on account status and security checks. If access to the original mailbox is lost, use XM support and complete identity verification rather than creating a second identity profile.

08

What happens if I do not use an XM account for a long time?

Dormancy and archiving rules depend on the applicable XM entity and client agreement. Long periods without trading or account activity may trigger dormant-account rules, fees or reactivation requirements in some jurisdictions.

09

How do I close an XM trading account?

Resolve open positions, remaining balances and pending payment requests first, then use the XM Profile or support process available for the account. Regulatory and record-keeping obligations can require XM to retain some historical data after closure.

Deposits, Withdrawals and Account Funds

10

What is the minimum deposit at XM?

The current global account page lists a $5 minimum deposit for Standard and Ultra Low accounts and $10,000 for the Shares Account. Individual payment methods may have separate minimums, limits or regional restrictions.

11

Which deposit and withdrawal methods does XM support?

Available payment methods depend on country, legal entity and account status. Cards, bank transfers and electronic-payment options can have different currencies, limits and settlement times, so check the options shown inside XM Profile.

12

Can I withdraw money while positions are open?

A withdrawal depends on available funds, margin use and account rules. Equity is not the same as withdrawable balance, so check free margin and any active promotion conditions before submitting a request.

13

How long do XM withdrawals take?

XM publishes that a high percentage of withdrawal requests are automatically approved, but broker-side approval is not the same as final receipt. Banks, cards and payment providers can add their own settlement time.

14

When can I trade after making a deposit?

Treat a deposit as available only after it appears in the trading account balance or usable funds. A bank debit or payment confirmation does not always mean the trading account has already been credited.

15

Can I transfer funds between XM trading accounts?

Internal transfers can be available between eligible accounts under the same XM Profile, but supported account combinations, currencies, bonuses and verification status can affect what is transferable.

16

Must I withdraw through the same method I used to deposit?

Anti-money-laundering and third-party-payment rules can affect the withdrawal route. The original funding method, account-holder name and payment-priority rules may determine which withdrawal options appear in XM Profile.

17

Does XM charge deposit or withdrawal fees?

Broker-side fees depend on the payment method and region. Banks, correspondent banks, card issuers and e-wallet providers can still apply their own charges, so the net amount received may differ from the amount requested.

18

What happens if the deposit currency differs from my account base currency?

The payment route may convert the deposit into the account base currency. Exchange rates and conversion costs can affect the credited amount. If another base currency is needed, an additional eligible account may be more appropriate than repeated conversion.

19

What is the minimum XM withdrawal amount?

There is no single minimum that should be assumed for every region and payment method. The live minimum, limits and supported channels should be checked in the withdrawal options currently shown inside XM Profile.

XM Account Types

20

What are the main XM account types?

The current global site lists Standard, Ultra Low, Shares and Demo accounts. Standard and Ultra Low show a $5 minimum deposit, while the Shares Account shows a $10,000 minimum deposit.

21

What is the difference between Standard and Ultra Low accounts?

They use different pricing and cost structures. Ultra Low is positioned around lower spreads, swap fees and commissions for higher-volume trading, while Standard uses its own account conditions. Compare spreads, swaps, commissions and available products.

22

How is the Shares Account different from a CFD account?

XM currently describes the Shares Account as an account for buying company shares and taking a stake in the stock market. It should not be treated as just another CFD account, and its minimum deposit and product structure are different.

23

What is an XM Demo Account for?

A Demo Account uses virtual funds in a simulated environment for practising platforms, orders and strategies. It does not create real profit or loss and cannot fully reproduce live liquidity, slippage, psychology or funding risk.

24

Does XM provide negative balance protection?

The current global account page states that its account types include negative balance protection. This is designed to prevent an account balance from remaining below zero, but it does not prevent deposited trading capital from being lost.

25

Does XM support hedging and an Islamic option?

The current global account page lists hedging and an Islamic option as standard account features. Eligibility, swap treatment and usage conditions still depend on the account, region and applicable terms.

26

Can I open additional trading accounts under the same XM Profile?

Eligible users can generally create additional trading accounts under one XM Profile. New accounts may use a different base currency, account type or trading platform, subject to current regional and profile limits.

MT4, MT5, XM App and WebTrader

27

Which trading platforms does XM offer?

XM currently lists MT4, MT5 and XM App as separate platform routes. MT4 and MT5 are different MetaTrader environments, while XM App is XM’s own application and should not be treated as simply another MetaTrader interface.

28

Can an XM MT4 account log in to MT5?

MT4 and MT5 accounts should not be treated as interchangeable. Login requires the platform, account ID, trading password and server that match the account that was created.

29

Does XM MT4 support Expert Advisors?

Yes. XM’s current MT4 material highlights Expert Advisors, MQL4 and more than 50 indicators and charting tools. EA development, testing and long-running automation are primarily desktop workflows.

30

Can the same trading account be used on desktop, web and mobile?

A trading account can be accessed through compatible desktop, WebTrader and mobile clients for its platform. The account state can be viewed across compatible devices, but this does not make MT4 and MT5 interchangeable.

31

Can I change the time zone shown in MetaTrader?

Trade history and execution records normally follow the trading-server time. Display options can vary by platform, but economic events and historical orders should be compared against server time rather than assuming the device time is used.

32

How does WebTrader differ from desktop MT4 or MT5?

WebTrader supports browser-based account access, charts and order management. Desktop MetaTrader provides the fuller environment for Expert Advisors, MetaEditor, strategy testing and persistent automation.

33

Should I install XM App or MetaTrader on iOS and Android?

It depends on the workflow. Use the matching MetaTrader mobile app when you need the MT4 or MT5 platform environment. XM App is XM’s own mobile service route and does not duplicate every MetaTrader function.

34

What should I do if MT4 or MT5 cannot find my trading server?

Confirm whether the account is MT4 or MT5, then check the full server name, account ID and trading password. Using an MT4 account in MT5, or selecting the wrong server, can prevent a successful login.

35

Can I stay logged in to WebTrader and desktop MetaTrader at the same time?

Compatible clients can access the same trading account, but positions and orders belong to that one account. Multiple devices can create duplicate orders or conflicting changes, so review open positions before acting from another terminal.

Spreads, Leverage, Margin and Trading Conditions

36

What is the maximum leverage available at XM?

XM currently promotes leverage up to 1000:1 for some accounts and jurisdictions. Actual leverage depends on the instrument, account, risk rules and local regulation, and higher leverage magnifies both gains and losses.

37

Do all XM markets have the same trading hours?

No. Forex, commodities, indices, shares and crypto-related products follow different schedules. Holidays can also change market hours, so use the current contract specification rather than assuming one schedule for every instrument.

38

How should I understand XM spreads and commissions?

The spread is the difference between bid and ask and is only one part of total trading cost. Account type and product may also involve commissions, swaps or other adjustments, so a minimum-spread figure should not be used alone.

39

Do XM positions incur overnight swap?

Swap treatment depends on the instrument, account and trade direction. Ultra Low, Islamic options or other account arrangements can use different rules, so check the live contract specification and current account terms.

40

Why can an XM order experience slippage?

Market execution does not guarantee that the final fill equals the price visible at the moment an order is sent. Fast markets, gaps and changing liquidity can create positive or negative slippage even when the broker uses a no-requotes policy.

41

Does crypto use the same leverage as forex at XM?

Not necessarily. Different products use different margin and leverage rules. Even if an account supports a high maximum leverage, crypto, shares or other volatile products can have their own contract-level margin conditions.

42

What risks apply to holding positions over the weekend?

Many traditional markets close over the weekend, while some crypto-related products may follow different schedules. Reopening gaps, swaps, margin changes and holiday hours should be reviewed before carrying leveraged positions through a closure.

43

Does a stop-loss guarantee the exact exit price?

No. A stop-loss still has to be executed in the market. Fast price moves or gaps can cause the final execution price to differ from the stop level, and some products can also have minimum-distance rules.

Market Products and Trading Terms

44

What is a spread?

A spread is the difference between the bid and ask prices of an instrument and forms part of the cost of entering a trade. It can change with liquidity, account type and market conditions.

45

Are XM CFDs and the Shares Account the same product?

No. A CFD normally provides price exposure without ownership of the underlying asset. XM currently describes the Shares Account as an account for buying company shares, so the legal and economic structure is different.

46

Which markets can I trade with XM?

XM currently lists forex, cryptocurrencies, stock derivatives, ETF derivatives, turbo stocks, commodities, equity indices, precious metals, energies, shares and thematic indices. Availability depends on region and account.

47

What is market execution?

Market execution means the order is filled using prices available in the market at the time of execution. The final fill can differ from the price visible when the order was submitted because price and liquidity can change.

48

What is a pending order?

A pending order becomes eligible for execution when a defined price condition is reached. Limit and stop orders use different trigger logic, and triggering does not guarantee the exact requested fill price.

49

What are pip value and contract size?

Contract size defines how much of the underlying exposure one lot represents, while pip or point value translates price movement into profit or loss. Both vary by product and account currency.

50

What is hedging?

Hedging usually means holding long and short exposure in the same instrument at the same time. It does not automatically remove trading costs or margin risk, and the exact margin and swap treatment depends on account rules.

Getting Started and Risk Basics

51

What should I check before placing my first XM trade?

Complete verification, confirm the platform and server, review the instrument specification, and practise order entry, stop-loss, closing and margin on Demo first. Live position size should be based on risk you can afford to take.

52

What does lot size mean?

Lot size represents trade size or contract quantity. The same 0.01 lot can represent very different notional exposure in forex, gold, shares or crypto-related products, so use the instrument specification rather than one universal rule.

53

Do I have to use a stop-loss on every trade?

A stop-loss is not always technically mandatory, but trading without one can increase the risk of uncontrolled losses. Even with a stop, gaps and fast markets can produce a fill away from the requested level.

54

What is margin?

Margin is the account equity set aside to support a leveraged position. As margin use rises, less free margin remains to absorb adverse price movement, so equity, used margin and margin level should be monitored together.

55

How is an economic calendar used in trading?

An economic calendar shows the scheduled timing of data and events that can affect volatility. It is useful for risk preparation because spreads, liquidity and slippage can change around major releases; it does not predict direction.

56

What does going short mean?

Going short means taking exposure that benefits if the contract price falls. CFDs can allow short exposure without owning the underlying asset, but the position still uses margin and can lose money if the price rises.

57

Does profitable Demo performance predict live results?

No. Demo is useful for learning platform mechanics and testing rules, but it does not reproduce the full impact of live liquidity, slippage, real financial pressure or trader behaviour.

Account Protection and Security

58

What is Stop Out?

Stop Out is an account risk-control mechanism that can automatically close one or more positions when margin level reaches the threshold specified for the account. The exact level depends on the applicable XM entity and account conditions.

59

What does XM negative balance protection mean?

Negative balance protection is designed to stop an account balance from remaining below zero. It does not prevent the account’s deposited trading capital from being lost through leveraged market exposure.

60

How can I reduce the risk of XM account takeover?

Use strong unique passwords, enable available multi-factor authentication, never share trading passwords, OTPs or recovery codes, and avoid unknown EAs, remote-control software and lookalike login pages.

61

Does client-money segregation mean funds are completely risk-free?

No. Segregation is part of client-money handling and regulatory arrangements, but it does not remove broker, bank, market or operational risk. The exact protections depend on the legal entity and its client documents.

62

How can I identify a fake XM login page or scam?

Check the domain and account-entry route, and avoid login links sent through unsolicited ads or instant messages. Requests for transfers to personal accounts, passwords, OTPs or remote device control are serious warning signs.

63

What should I do if my phone is lost or my email account is compromised?

Change relevant passwords, review MFA, contact XM through protected support and check for unusual logins, trades or withdrawal requests. Do not keep using a mailbox that you no longer control as a trusted recovery channel.

64

Will XM support ask for my trading password or OTP?

Normal support should not require you to hand over a complete password, OTP or recovery code. Where identity verification is needed, use the protected process provided by XM rather than sending credentials through informal channels.

Bonuses, Promotions and Eligibility

65

Are XM bonuses available to every client?

No. XM currently states that bonus availability and percentage vary by region and that terms and conditions apply. Jurisdiction, legal entity, account type and eligibility rules can all affect whether a client can participate.

66

Can a withdrawal or internal transfer affect an XM bonus?

Yes, depending on the promotion. Bonus balances can be reduced, removed or adjusted when funds are withdrawn, transferred or when account conditions change. Check the current promotion terms before moving funds.

67

Can an XM deposit bonus be withdrawn as cash?

XM currently states that the bonus itself is not withdrawable. Whether trading results generated while using the bonus can be withdrawn, and under what conditions, is governed by the specific promotion terms.

68

Can I use XM without joining a promotion?

Yes. Promotions are additional benefits rather than a required component of an XM trading account. Clients who do not participate can still use the account services and trading conditions available to their region and account type.

69

How are qualifying lots or trading volume counted for a promotion?

Each promotion can define eligible products, time windows, volume calculations and exclusions differently. Use the promotion page and its progress display rather than assuming every closed trade contributes to qualification.

70

Can I join more than one XM promotion at the same time?

It depends on the compatibility rules of each promotion. Some offers can coexist and others are mutually exclusive, so one deposit or trade should not be assumed to qualify for multiple rewards.

Platform Connection and Technical Troubleshooting

71

What should I check if I cannot log in to XM MT4 or MT5?

Confirm whether the account is MT4 or MT5, then check the matching server, account ID and trading password. The XM Profile password and MetaTrader trading-account password are different credentials and should not be mixed.

72

What if I do not receive an XM verification or account email?

Check the email address, spam folders, mailbox capacity and filtering rules, then use the resend option available in XM Profile where applicable. If delivery still fails, use XM support rather than opening duplicate profiles.

73

What should I do if XM Profile or a webpage does not load?

Check the network, browser cache, extensions and system time, then try a supported browser. For account-specific failures, record the exact time, error message and device environment before contacting support.

74

Why are MT4 or MT5 charts and quotes not updating?

Check the terminal connection, trading server and instrument trading hours first. If the server is connected but prices remain stale, reconnect or confirm whether the instrument is closed, suspended or under maintenance.

75

Why am I not receiving mobile trade or price alerts?

Check operating-system notification permissions, network access, battery-saving settings and the app’s own notification configuration. A push notification is only an alert; the trading account’s positions and history determine the actual order status.

76

What if MetaTrader sounds or email alerts stop working?

Review terminal notification settings, email configuration and system permissions. Alerts are not execution confirmations, so important positions should be checked directly in the account and trade history.

77

What if my balance and trade history do not seem to match?

Check account currency, commissions, swaps, dividend or corporate-action adjustments, bonus changes and the selected history period. If the difference remains unexplained, export the statement and contact XM through an account-support channel.

XM, Legal Entities and This Site

78

What is XM?

XM is an online multi-asset brokerage brand whose service ecosystem includes trading accounts, market access, execution, MT4, MT5, XM App, funding, education, tools and customer support.

79

Which documents govern my XM account?

Use the client agreement, risk disclosures, fees and product documents, XM Profile information and current contract specifications issued by the legal entity that opened the account. Group-level marketing does not replace those documents.

80

Can xmtradingapp.com resolve XM account-specific cases?

No. This site provides information about XM products, trading platforms and common workflows, but it is not an XM legal entity, Members Area or customer-support department. Verification, payments, orders and account restrictions belong in protected XM support.

81

Is the content on this site investment advice?

No. The content explains products, platforms and common account concepts. It does not provide personalised investment, legal or tax advice and does not guarantee that any strategy, product or account will be profitable.

82

Is this site’s Privacy Policy the same as XM’s client-data policy?

No. This site’s Privacy Policy covers only the information and website functions controlled by xmtradingapp.com. XM Profile, KYC, trading, payment and order data are handled by the applicable XM legal entity under its own policy.

83

How should I contact XM about verification, withdrawals or trading issues?

Use XM Profile, the Help Center or the protected support channels provided by XM. For account-specific cases, prepare the account ID, time and relevant records, but do not send passwords, OTPs or complete payment credentials through unsecured channels.

Need Help with an XM Account Case?

Verification, payment, order, account-restriction and login cases require account records. Use XM Profile or another protected XM support channel and avoid sending passwords, OTPs or complete payment credentials through public forms.
